For independent college counselors

One place for each student's essay

AdmitUs keeps your guidance next to the student's draft, and the AI coach reads every piece of your guidance before it answers. The coach is told to help the student write the essay themselves, and the History tab shows you every change to the draft, with who made it and when.

Feedback today

Your advice probably reaches students as Google Docs comments, emails and notes from meetings. A week later it's hard to tell which points a student took, which they set aside, and which they never saw.

Guidance aimed at part of the essay

In AdmitUs each direction you give is one item, aimed at the part of the essay it's about: the opening, the background, the setback, the reflection, the ending, one paragraph, or the whole essay. You type it in yourself, or the student enters what you said in a meeting. If you reword an item later, the earlier wording is kept.

The student's decisions

The student marks every item Following, Not following or Not decided yet, and can add a note saying why. Every change of decision is kept, and you can open the history of each item.

The coach reads every item, with the student's decision, before each answer it gives. When the student runs a review, it goes through your guidance item by item and marks each one Follows it, Partly, Not yet, or Your choice not to.

What the student seesExample

The example essay: a student fails to fix an old radio for Mr. Halvorsen at a library repair café.

Opening

Start with the radio, not the café

Reflection

Say what you learned once

Ending

End back at the workbench

Student's note: I'd rather end with Mr. Halvorsen turning the dial.

The AI coach and the record of every change

The coach asks the student questions and points at their own sentences, and its instructions tell it never to write the whole essay, because the Common App asks every applicant to certify that what they submit “is my own work, factually true, and honestly presented.” When the coach suggests wording, the draft stays as it was unless the student puts the words in, and the AI writing check points out any sentence pasted word for word from a suggestion until the student rewrites it. The check is not an AI detector and decides nothing.

You can see every change in the History tab, with the person's name and the time, and saved versions cannot be changed or deleted from inside the app. If the student turns it on for you, you can also read every conversation they had with the coach. Each answer is kept with the question asked.

Your view of each essay

The essay belongs to the student, and the student sets what you can see and do. A new advisor invite starts with the draft, the notes and guidance, and the reviews in view, and lets you add notes. Editing stays off unless the student turns it on.

All your students in one list

When you sign in, Your essays lists every essay shared with you, each one marked “You are the advisor”.

Bringing your students

AdmitUs is invite-only for now, and we set up each student's essay ourselves. Once a student's essay exists, the student adds your email in the Sharing tab. AdmitUs doesn't send you an email about it, so the student tells you, and you sign in at admitus.me with that address.

Advisor accounts are free.

An email address for bringing a group of students will be added here before launch.
